The Talent Show is a competition for the four design schools in Copenhagen under the Culture Ministry. The students were simply asked to submit sustainable design concepts that fit with the Copenhagen Showhow’s themes.
The jury needed to choose 10 projects to be showcased at the event and then decide on three overall winners. Inspired by the students’ work, their discussions took them to the heart of what it means to be a designer today. How to combine aesthetics with sustainability? How can resources best be used? Whether you are most effective as a sustainable designer at a societal or individual level?
The jury also stressed the possibility and potential inherent in sustainable design. Ross Lovegrove noted that “Sustainability is a huge opportunity because everything will need to be redesigned,” yet also cautioned that sustainability “suggests that nothing changes, but human beings are all about change.” These discussions informed the final choices. In the end, the jury decided to select four winners because two of the best designs were so complimentary and the jury was excited about combining them when they are presented at Copenhagen Showhow.
You can see the selected designs when the event opens on 28th August and throughout Design Week. The award ceremony takes place on 3rd September at 16.30. Talent Show and Copenhagen Showhow will take place at Hal D.
