ADRIAN HUGHES

"Journalist Adrian Hughes has for the last 5 years been the presenter of a weekly cultural debate tv-show "The Arbiters of Taste" for the Danish Broadcast Corporation's DR2. Born into a half Danish, half Welsh family of architects and trained from the Danish High School of Journalism in 1987 he has specialised in cultural and historical matters.

Since 1996 he has reported for the DBC on all major Danish additions to various cultural institutions; the new National Gallery (by C.F.Møller), the Royal Danish Library (by Schmidt, Hammer & Lassen), the Royal Theatre (by Lene Tranberg) and the DBC's own Concert Hall (by Jean Nouvel). In a highly acclaimed documentary "The Ship Merchant's Opera" he followed through four years the complicated process of building and especially designing Copenhagen’s new Opera House on the harbor front. The builder, the businessman Mærsk McKinney-Møller had quite a different take on the esprit of the project than his appointed architect, Henning Larsen.
